Quality metrics

"However wonderful you think your development process is, you still need to measure how effective it is"
Paul Herzlich, technical director at Systeme Evolutif, quoted in "A quality argument", Computing, 24 November 1994

Programs: Eg. Number of errors per 1000 lines of source code

Designs: Eg. Number of information flows per module

Documents: Eg. Number of typographical errors per page

A Logica survey in 1993 found that 80% of companies saw metrics as vital to the QA process, but only 15% used them!

Quality metrics should be used. Trace the cause of errors. Improve the processes that regularly cause errors
