Event and fault trees

Event trees (ETs) describe system events and consequential failures. These are accident sequences. An ET is made up of a sequence of events constructed using deductive (forward) logic

Fault trees (FTs) describe ways in which a system involved in an accident can fail. An FT displays relationships among events leading to an undesireable event in an ET. FTs are developed using inductive (backward) logic
